Why Wearing All Black Doesn’t Have to Be Drab

I’m definitely not against wearing all black. In fact, it’s one of my go-tos. If you know me, you know I absolutely love timeless fashion. Wearing all black is definitely one of them. Maybe you’ve heard all black is boring and drab, maybe you’re worried you’ll be called gothic (yeah, right!) or told you look like you’re going to a funeral. I’m here to prove all these myths wrong. My friends, wearing all black is a perfectly acceptable and chic choice and with my tips, you don’t have to look drab wearing it!

Here are four reasons why all black doesn’t have to be drab:

1. You can mix textures for added depth.

You probably will look drab if your all black outfit consists of all cotton. By varying textures such as fur, leather, suede, or whatever black fabrics you have in your closet, your outfit will show a level of depth that every fashionista longs for. Simply put, mixing it up with different textures makes your outfit more appealing to the eye.

2. Adding statement pieces will make your outfit stand out.

Whether it be a statement bag, shoes, sunglasses, or jewelry, your outfit can stand out with special touches. One of my favorite things to add is sparkle to an outfit. Adding a statement necklace like this Rocksbox piece, will take your outfit to the next level. A statement piece like this is anything but drab!

3. There’s always lipstick.

This is always my favorite part of all black outfits! You can add pops of color and still not detract from the total sophistication going on in your outfit. Picking out a color you love, one that looks great on you, or something based on your current mood is totally up to you! I went for MAC – Relentlessly Red.

4. It’s not about what you wear, it’s about how you wear it.

I find this last tip most important because often we can get so focused on fashion that we forget what’s most important. The confidence you have on the inside will shine brighter than any sparkle or color you put on. Wearing your all black ensemble with a smile on your face will instantly cause your entire outfit to look better! You’ll feel better too!

When I read your blog post title the first thing I thought was add multiple textures and that’s exactly what you said. My go-to is definitely all black when I’m in a hurry.
