6 Things to Try When You Feel Like Giving Up

We’ve all been there. You encounter a situation in life that seems so overwhelming you see no way out of it. You feel like giving up, because in the moment of stress and anxiety the easy way out seems to be the only way out. Pressing on seems out of the realm of possibility and fighting for what you want seems hopeless. You’ve tried so hard and yet you still aren’t getting the outcome you want. If this is a situation you’ve encountered before then you know how easy it is to let fear and self-doubt get in the way. If this is a situation you are going through now, I’m here to tell you I’m with you. I encountered these feelings very recently over the loss of a loved one. It’s been the most difficult couple of months I’ve ever experienced, but through it all I’ve gained a new strength. My goal today is to encourage you or anyone who is in that place where they feel stuck. I’m here to tell you that there is a way out. Keep looking up.

  1. Be still.

For me, when “life happened,” the first thing that I felt like I could get rid of to relieve the stress was my fashion blog. In reality, the stress I was experiencing had nothing to do with it. Taking a break is essential to refocus your priorities. Find the areas in your life that you can put aside for a moment and make time for yourself. Once I was able to rest and be still, I began to see the hope again.

  2. Take it one day at a time.

Often those feelings of overwhelm come more from our inabiltiy to see what it is right in front of us in the moment. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself when the only thing that you have control over is the present. By learning to appreicate what we currently have as opposed to what we don’t, we will be better equipped to handle the situations that arise day by day – moment by moment. Evys Tee, White Jeans, Peplum Sweatshirt, Strappy Heels

  3. Change your perspective.

In my feelings of overwhelm, I find comfort in knowing not only how big my God is, but also how big my world is. I am but a small speck compared to the billions of galaxies that vastly occupy our magnificent universe. There are many other people out there that are less fortunate than I. While being grateful for what I have is one thing I can do to change my perspective, another is viewing the problem as an opportunity. This leads me to my next point.

  4. Embrace the discomfort.

Change and growth come in those moments when you are at your weakest. By learning to accept that your discomfort is all a part of the growth, you can learn to appreciate the difficulty. I am stronger now than I’ve ever been and it is because of the trials that I have been going through. I know that this new found strength is something that I can never replace or take for granted. It truly is a beautiful experience to acknowledge your weaknesses and grow from them.Evys Tee, White Jeans, Peplum Sweatshirt, Strappy Heels

  5. Do what you love.

You’ve probably heard the quote, “Do what you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” This is something I had to learn when refocusing my priorities recently. When you’re doing what you love, regardless of the failure you fear you may experience, it will be worth it and sustain you enough to give it your all. Fear is the real enemy here and will only set you back from accomplishing all you dream about.

  6. Don’t settle.

The moment you settle is the moment you sacrifice who you are. Stay true to yourself and believe in everything you are capable of. Be confident in everything you do and change your “I wish” to an “I will.” Know you can do it and don’t let anyone or anything stop you. You got this!

I try to change my perspective and be still. I’ve gotten stressed out and quit things that had nothing to do with me feeling stuck. I wish I would’ve spent more time thinking, but it’s a lesson learned!

You look beautiful and I love the message here! I especially like the one about changing your perspective. It’s funny how you can be so upset in the moment but if you take a step back and really look at it from a different angle, you can have such a better understanding. Great post! 🙂

Love your outfit and your advice! I especially love “don’t settle.” When you’re faced with a challenge you can settle with how things currently are, or you can push through and be better. 🙂

What a beautiful post. I think it really is important to step back and give yourself a break when needed. It’s super hard to do that with a blog and growing Instagram but you have to remember about what’s really important in life sometimes, and that your blog will still be there after your break.

I completely agree with this post, Molly, especially taking it one day at a time. If you can really internalize and actually do that, it makes whatever you’re going through much more manageable.

These are great tips! Being a college student, it seems like everything can be a stressful emotional roller coaster! I definitely have to be intentional about taking things one day at a time and just focusing on one task at a time. Also, your ring collection is very exciting! Congrats!
