What to Wear When You Feel Down

“I don’t know what to wear!”

This was me last Friday. I had a birthday party to go to and I was not in the mood to be perky and socialize. You’ve probably been there before, just like me, with some special event to go to and feeling frustrated by a clothing crisis. It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything clean or cute. My mood was simply overtaking my closet and I was not finding anything! I’ve done some reading on color psychology and discovered that most people are drawn towards gray when they’re feeling down.  Apparently my clothing choices started reflecting this as I was getting ready.

The first dress I tried on was gray, which was not lively at all. Then I tried on a both a black skirt and a muted floral dress, neither of which made the cut. Most of my choices were making me feel as drab as I felt. Why was I continuing to try on clothing with lack of color?!

Finally, I came to a bright raspberry pink dress. Although a very bold move it was the perfect decision to counteract my mood. The red tones brought out the characteristics of strength and confidence, neither of which I was feeling. The pink hues in the dress brought some femininity and warmth to the outfit. As soon as I tried it on I was feeling much more confident to attend this party and socialize!

Inspired by the pink, I wore a bold pink lipstick to show I was ready for anything. I paired it with my current Rocksbox necklace and accented the pink dress with blues and yellows from the necklace.

My new blue suede heeled sandals from Nordstrom Rack had just came in the mail and I was excited to try them out. Not only did they bring out the blue in the necklace, but they were a great contrast to the raspberry pink! These shoes have quickly become my new favorite!

Adding the yellow clutch to the blue shoes made the perfect accessories to make the entire outfit pop with color accents. And of course I got to wear my new Rocksbox x-ring. In the end, I was a much happier girl and learned my lesson: When everything you try on is a bust, wear bright colors and smile a lot!
