Last weekend I went to see Idina Menzel perform in the musical If/Then. It was amazing! My husband and I chose to spend the day in Seattle, which meant that I needed an outfit that would easily transition from day into night. Believe me, it was so hard not to want to “costume change!” Because black is both elegant and chic, I chose to go for a street chic look in all black. I like to call it the day time version of the LBD. Read on to see more of this effortless yet stylish look and discover my style tip on how to master it yourself!
I chose to go for a contrast of a chunky cowl neck sweater and skinny faux leather leggings. I love this look because it is not only comfortable, but also extremely chic. While the leggings bring a sleek and elegant look, the over-sized sweater brings smart practicality to the look. So smart, I didn’t even need to wear a jacket!
Funny story to illustrate how much I love these shoes. After the show, we came outside and it was pouring rain. It was several blocks to the car and I didn’t have an umbrella. I started running down the streets of Seattle and may or may not have yelled “Not my suede booooooties!!” Seriously. I love these so much, I have taken them to the shoe cobbler already to have the heels caps replaced. I will be so sad when I have to part with these!
Style tip: When going for a monochromatic look, mix textures to add dimension to the outfit.
This tip is the most important and doesn’t only apply to black. I mixed faux leather leggings, suede booties, a polyester sweater, and leather cross body handbag, all of which were black, but stood separate on it’s own due to the variety of textures.
