To Fulfill a Dream, Sometimes You Have to Quit Chasing Another

As I updated my Facebook status from kindergarten teacher to owner at Style Miss Molly my heart grew unbelievably sad reminiscing the past that brought me so much joy, yet I was filled with remarkable excitement and hope for a future I can create on my own. Yes, I’m announcing today that I left my dream job to fulfill another and I couldn’t be more thrilled and nervous about it at the same time. Not only am I leaving job stability, but I’m leaving a job I truly loved and something that became a part of who I am for the past ten years.

Quitting your dream job for another job you love
Ever since I was in fifth grade and saw little kindergarten students walking in a line behind their teacher like mother goose with her goslings, I knew I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. I pursued education with such a passion for student growth and helped them by setting the framework to overcome every emotional, social and academic hurdle they came across in life. I can only hope that I’ve instilled in these small five and six-year-olds the ability to dream big about all they could ever achieve. After all, that is the driving force behind me boldly making a complete life change by leaving the only job I’ve ever known.Quitting your dream job for another job you loveQuitting your dream job for another job you love
I never thought I would be where I am today; a blog that brings me so much joy and a community of women that support and push me to achieve my dreams. I have the opportunity to continually reach goals that excite and drive me to pursue a future I’ve always dreamed about. I never imagined that I would leave education or stop pursuing a lifelong future as a teacher. If you told me a year ago that I would quit my job to pursue entrepreneurial dreams and take risks that might not always be the most consistent life I never would’ve believed you. I didn’t have the courage. But here I am today taking on the full responsibility of pursuing Style Miss Molly as a business.

In some ways, I still continue to be a teacher because that part of me runs so deep that it will never leave my soul. Because children will always have a place in my heart, I have decided to substitute teach on occasion. I will always find ways to be around them and to continue to teach and inspire them in any way that I can. I do not consider that I am leaving teaching but more so I am fulfilling my dreams of achieving goals and opportunities that I never could’ve imagined possible. I’m so thankful for the people who have helped me get there today and for the women like you to continue to support me to make these dreams possible. I am overwhelmed with gratefulness because I would have never been able to make this decision if it weren’t for you and your open support. I am humbled by your kind words that keep me motivated each morning. It is because of you that I love what I do so much.

My goal over the next few months is to make you my priority and take Style Miss Molly to the next level. I want to accomplish things on my checklist that I have wanted to do for months and pursue creative ideas I dream about but in the past as a teacher, haven’t had the time to do. You’ll see more posts, more fashion, more of my lifestyle, more encouraging words and more of my heart. I am setting a standard of working harder than ever before by providing you with content that encourages and excites you to not only be incredibly stylish but most importantly, inspire you to be the beautiful woman you are from the inside out.

I want to encourage you to live your dreams and pursue your goals without hesitation or fear. I want you to know that nothing can stop you if you put your whole heart into it. You can achieve anything. Above all, do everything with a smile on your face because that’s the most beautiful thing you can wear. I love you all and couldn’t be more excited to walk this journey with you. Thank you, my dear friends, for all of your love and support!

I’d love to hear from YOU so I’ve created a short survey for you to let me know what you love about my blog. It takes three minutes to take and would mean the world to me!! Thank you so much!
Keep smiling!

Good luck, and congratulations! I’ve pondered this for awhile. I also have another job I love (children’s librarian) and I just don’t know which direction to go in.

    • August 15, 2016 / 4:20 pm

Thanks so much Becky! 🙂 We sound a lot a like. What helped me make my decision is when my blog became all I could think about. Even at work. I knew it was becoming a greater passion even though I will miss the kids sooo much! I can always fall back to teaching, but for this season I am following my heart and giving it my all!

  21. August 9, 2016 / 12:46 pm

Congratulations! That’s such a huge decision (and one I know you probably went back and forth on forever before deciding), but I know it’s going to be a great one! I love reading your blog, and I’m so excited to see the new changes that having more time for the blog will bring! 🙂
