We’ve all been there. You try something on you love so much in the store, and it just doesn’t fit. It’s so hard to let it go as you sit there to pull, twist, tuck and try to make that article of clothing work. You end up purchasing it because you love the print or style of it so much. After you get it home, the dreaded happens. You never wear it. You love it still, but every time you go to put it on something just feels off. You hang it up and save it for the “wear another day” collection. This has happened to me on numerous occasions. I’ve learned that you just have to let it go!
When I created this outfit for my husband’s birthday somebody told me, “You have to be tall to pull off that midi skirt!” That may be true, which is why fit is everything!
Today I’m offering three simple tips to help you achieve the perfect fit:
1. Love it or leave it. When you’re in the store do not make the mistake of trying to love it. Buying it because you love something about it is not going to help if it doesn’t fit you well. If you abide by the philosophy to only wear clothes that make you feel great, then making sure the fit is right is vital. When it fits you great, you feel great. Your confidence is boosted and there’s no more feeling frumpy in front of the mirror.
2. Get it tailored. It’s worth it to get it tailored if you love the piece so much and can invest a little extra into the tailoring. I would not recommend this unless you are serious about getting it done right away. There’s no need to take up closet space with an item hanging with tags for the “someday” you will take it to get it tailored.
3. Know your body. This tip is so crucial because everyone’s body is different. Look for pieces that flatter your figure – not the models. Learning to embrace your natural beauty, including your flaws, is necessary to feeling fabulous. Whether you are plus size, petite, or tall, choosing pieces that are already tailored this way will help you achieve the perfect fit.
Hope I’ve helped you today rediscover why fit is everything! Thanks for reading and keep smiling!
