Dress to Impress in the Classroom

Hi everyone! Most of you may know by now, I’m a teacher. If you don’t know, let me fill you in. I teach Kindergarten and have for the last seven years! Last week was back to school parent night and I had the hardest time choosing what to wear. With all eyes on me during a presentation, I wanted to appear professional and make a good impression. I settled with a color I felt confident in and a style that has worked great in the past. I went with a classic hounds tooth pencil skirt and a mustard yellow top. This look is great for teachers wanting to make a good impression, and will also work great for those of you with office jobs wearing professional attire!

To me, yellow is a very warm and pleasant color. It shows my creative and happy side, which is exactly how I want parents to see me as a teacher! Pairing this yellow loose fitting top from Old Navy with a hounds tooth pencil skirt from Banana Republic brought an elegant contrast to the look.

Of course I wore my hair up, was wearing glasses, and wore long dangly jewelry, because what doesn’t look more teacherly than that?!

OK, I know what you’re thinking, she wore those shoes and clutch to back to school night?! I actually didn’t wear either. I almost wore these shoes, but went with a similar black pump with a little more practicality. I just love pointed toe shoes to polish off a professional look! I would have styled it with this purse if I had the choice, but the bag I had that night was my polka dot teacher tote that a previous student got me from Disneyland. Not really photo appropriate! 😉

This outfit turned out to be the perfect fit for me and I felt confident during the presentation. Even though I may have spoken a bit too fast because I am passionate and excited about what I do, the parents left thrilled about what their child will be doing in Kindergarten! Can’t beat that!

Finally, I leave you with a cute story and hopefully a smile on your face. One of the parents said how much their daughter loves me (sweet) and thinks I look like a barbie doll (what?!). That is definitely the first time I have ever heard that! Guess there’s a first time for everything! 🙂 This is the same little girl who looked up at me the other day and said, “You are just too pretty. I love you.” Out of the mouths of babes…

Keep smiling!
