Creating an Outfit with Vision

Today I’m sharing my style tip that I use before planning any outfit! This is my style secret that I have been using forever. It has gotten me through so many important events and special occasions and always helps me look my best. It got me through dressing for a cocktail party with Lancome. So what’s the secret? You might be surprised to find out!

Choose a couple adjectives that describe how you want to appear to others.

I recommend only choosing two or three. Ask yourself, “When others look at me in this outfit, what do I want them to see?” Do you want to appear sophisticated or feminine? Do you want to appear edgy or bold? Whatever it is, decide what’s most important for you to look your best.

stylemissmolly_9477_blogWhy does this work? Think of it as your outfit vision. Without a vision, your outfit will not only be harder to pull together, but it will also have the tendency to lose sight of how you want to look. By coming up with words that describe your look before you put the outfit together, you are much more likely to remain on track and end up with a look that is exactly what you wanted. It’s that simple!

Thanks Robin! The times I don’t think of a vision are the times I don’t feel 100% confident in what I’m wearing. Having a vision helps me look great and feel great! Hope they help you!

What an absolutely stunning dress, and I love the vibrant blue – I’m sure you stand out in a sea of LBDs! Love your concept of choosing an adjective or two as the starting point for creating your look! I think I do that a little bit on a subconscious level as I try to maintain my own personal style and vibe with every outfit.

    • December 9, 2015 / 11:11 pm

Thanks, Gina! I definitely stood out in a sea of LBDs. Even the decor was elegant white roses! So pretty! I think we all do this subconsciously too! It definitely helps to have a vision with your outfit!

  17. December 9, 2015 / 7:13 pm

Hi sweet friend! What an adorable way to pick an outfit! I love that you pick 2-3 adjectives. I feel like I almost use this method too, but in terms of my mood! Do I want to pull off the cute/casual look today, or do I want to look sophisticated? Am I feeling playful, or more serious? Your pictures are stunning! You look so great in blue! xo

    • December 9, 2015 / 11:06 pm

Chelsea, it’s so awesome that you do this too based on your mood! I am definitely the same way. If I want to look sophisticated than I probably would be in the mood for cute. But who knows, a sophisticated-cute could totally work! haha! Thanks for your sweet words!

      🙂 Molly

  18. December 9, 2015 / 8:34 pm
