I love red and black together. So much in fact my wedding colors were white, black and red. There are so many ways to play with this color combination without coming across as a punk rocker chick, which was not a look I wanted. What I was going for in creating a look with black and red was sophistication with an edge.
The first step in pulling off black and red is deciding how much of each color you want to accent. I was looking for a fun pop of red. My inspiration came from the Michael Kors handbag I recently scored on Ideel! Loving the structure of the bag and bright pop of red, I wanted to bring some elegance and edge to what I was wearing.
For the elegance, I chose a mixed texture zip front tee from Express. To me this top is the perfect amount of sophistication and edge. It has a satiny texture, sleek fit, and gold zipper detailing. Desiring to keep my jewelry minimal to let the rest of the outfit speak for itself, I chose to wear a trio gold chain necklace to bring in some delicacy. I’m all about creating looks that contrast!
For the edge, I wore denim jeans and some lace-up heeled sandals. Strappy heels are a lot of fun to liven up an outfit, especially if the rest of your outfit has delicate and structured pieces.
The final and possibly my favorite part to completing an outfit is lipstick choice. Of course I was going to go with red! It not only complemented the purse color, but it also polished off the look with a powerful yet classic color choice.
Keep smiling!
